Historically, Saratoga Springs has been revered for the supposed healing powers
of the nearby mineral springs, located within Saratoga Spa State Park. However,
there is much more to this small city in upstate New York.
The spas brought the elite of American society and their wealth to Saratoga
Springs. Horse racing was developed as a past time so that, today, thoroughbred
racing at the Saratoga Race Course and harness racing at the Saratoga Equine
Sports Centre are thriving. Displaying this equine heritage are the National
Museum of Racing and Hall of Fame and the Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame and
Museum. Other local attractions include the Lake George Opera Festival, the
National Museum of Dance and Saratoga National Historic Park.
